Mark graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2009, holds the RCVS certificate in Zoological Medicine and is an Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine. He has spent most of his career working with exotic pets, wildlife and zoo species, treating everything from frogs to rhinos.

At Battle Flatts Veterinary Clinic he sees a busy caseload of both first opinion and referral birds, reptiles, rabbits and other small mammals, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. In addition, Mark provides and oversees veterinary services for a number of zoological collections and to a local wildlife rehabilitation centre.

Mark is particularly interested in endoscopy, orthopaedics and reproductive surgery. In addition to clinical work, he also undertakes DWA inspections, can advise on zoo licensing and regularly provides CPD to students, vets and nurses on a range of avian and exotics topics.

He works alongside a team highly experienced in the anaesthesia and nursing care of a massive range of species down to animals as small as a couple of grams. The surgery is equipped with a range of specialist equipment including mechanical ventilators, a variety of small rigid and flexible video endoscopes, laparoscopy, rabbit and rodent dental tools, surgical instrumentation for tiny patients and hospitalisation facilities for all species.
